Diabetes melitus merupakan salah satu penyakit tidak menular yang paling serius, menyerang sekitar 463 juta orang dewasa di seluruh dunia pada tahun 2019, dan diperkirakan akan meningkat menjadi 578 juta pada tahun 2030.<\/p>

Di Malaysia sendiri, prevalensi diabetes melitus berkisar antara 7,3%-23,8%. Ini adalah statistik yang sangat serius, karena menempatkan orang-orang ini pada risiko tinggi terkena berbagai komplikasi, seperti penyakit jantung, stroke, peningkatan tekanan darah, penyempitan pembuluh darah (aterosklerosis) dan kerusakan saraf (neuropati). Selain itu, diabetes dapat mempengaruhi setiap organ dalam tubuh.<\/strong><\/p>

How Diabetes is Treated?<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>

To date, there is currently no cure for diabetes<\/strong>. While some opt for the standard treatment of anti-diabetic medication, the body will gradually develop resistance and they will eventually have to start using insulin injections. Dalam konteks diabetes, MSCs mampu meregenerasi sel beta islet pankreas, melindungi sel beta islet pankreas endogen dari apoptosis, dan memperbaiki resistensi insulin pada jaringan perifer. Dengan cara tersebut, ini adalah pengobatan diabetes yang sangat menjanjikan.<\/strong><\/p>

What is the Therapeutic Potential of Mesenchymal Stem Cells for Diabetes?<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>

Lebih dari 15 uji coba yang saat ini terdaftar di Clinicaltrials.gov telah menunjukkan bahwa MSCs telah menunjukkan keamanan dan kemanjuran yang dapat ditoleransi dalam pengobatan diabetes.<\/p>

Usage of MSCs in diabetes have shown that patients showed improved glycemic control, improved HBA1C values, and reduced insulin requirements. Treatment with MSCs during the early phase of disease have been shown to restore beta cell function, ameliorate the destruction of pancreatic cells, regenerate the damaged cells, and MSCs can reduce insulin resistance in the body<\/strong>.<\/p>

Resistensi insulin menyebabkan peradangan kronis tingkat rendah di tubuh, dan juga dapat menyebabkan obesitas dan komplikasi diabetes lainnya. Oleh karena itu, mengatasi dan mengobati resistensi insulin merupakan aspek yang sangat penting dalam pengobatan diabetes. MSCs mengurangi resistensi insulin dengan mengatur ekspresi gen di jaringan target insulin perifer.<\/p>

Kesimpulannya, hasil penelitian cukup menggembirakan, dan MSCs merupakan cara pengobatan yang menjanjikan bagi pasien diabetes untuk mencapai pengendalian penyakit yang lebih baik, sehingga meningkatkan kualitas hidup.<\/strong><\/p>
